Goodnight, Sweet Prince
This tribute was written by a devoted Prince fan, days after Prince past away.
I received a text from Mama on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 10:05am, She asked, “Why did Prince die?” I texted back, “I didn’t hear anything about this? I know he had the flu recently.”
Mama texted me back a pic from TMZ: “Prince dead at 57.”
My world froze… I couldn’t believe this image on my phone.
I was in the middle of a meeting so I had 2 compose myself and keep it 2gether.
I went online to Prince.org. The site was shut down. Then I went to Drfunkenberry.com; it was shut down as well.
My heart beating fast, I asked myself: What the heck is going on? Is there truth in this?
Then reality hit me like a mack truck. My phone blew up like never before. I received so many texts saying the same thing.
“Did u hear the news?“ “OMG Prince is dead”
I can’t believe he’s gone. Everything is black. I have lost my hero…

CheekyChaCha: What was your first impressions of Prince?
Prince was introduced 2 me in 2 ways.
When I was 6 years old, I remember I was at a record store with my Dad, and there was this song playing in the background. I can’t remember what song it was, but I do remember the clerk telling Dad it was Prince. Prince? Who is that? Does he wear a crown and have a castle?
The clerk giggled and showed me an album cover. Dad bought the album and told me I had 2 share it with my sisters.
Eventually, my sisters hijacked the album and I never saw it again.

Years later, I was watched MTV, and I saw Prince’s video “Little Red Corvette” It was Prince and he looked even cooler than I remember, wearing a Purple trench coat and high-heels.
I had 2 do a double-take. Yes, this dude was wearing high-heels!
My eyes grew wider and wider as he pranced and did this dance move during Dez Dickerson’s guitar solo. Prince did the splits, came back up ever so gracefully, 2 return back 2 the microphone. That was it 4 me. I thought: MJ can do the moonwalk, but Prince was on a whole other level. From there on, I was hooked. My musical love affair with Prince had begun.
Prince was not just a musician to me, he was my everything. I looked up 2 him as a big brother, role model, and a teacher. He taught me importance of ownership of music.
Young Honore, age 14, with his collection of Prince albums.
He broadened my musical horizons, to appreciate Rock, Funk, R&B, Jazz, Pop, the whole spectrum. I was amazed on how Prince wrote, produced, and played every instrument on his albums. And his voice, the way he screamed and layered his harmonies! It was Purple bliss.
Prince could do it all. I remember having so many debates about who was better: MJ or Prince? Of course, u know my answer. They are both Angels now, resting in a better place.
He also taught me about God, politics and Sex, there were no limits with him. He also was the biggest player in game, and I’m not talking about sports, I’m talking about the ladies! Prince dated some of finest women I had ever seen! Vanity, Shelia E. Sheena Easton, Kim Basinger, Mayte. Are u kidding me? There was so much speculation about his sexuality, many thought he was gay.
It was just rumors, small-minded people judging another because of his appearance. Prince was not gay, he was just different. Prince was 5’2, so he wore high heels and g-strings on stage. So daring and genius. Who does that? No one, but Prince. He owned his image.
U can tell he was influenced by James Brown, Sly Stone, Santana, and Jimi Hendrix. But in the end he did what he wanted 2 do- 2 me that’s a real pimp!
Prince Rogers Nelson was Born June 7, 1958 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Personally, I feel Prince was and will always be the greatest musician of all time.
If u look at his musical catalog and his accomplishments, it’s very clear. Prince sold more than 100 million records, won seven Grammys, and an Oscar. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. He catapulted into super stardom with his debut movie Purple Rain.
He also had 3 other films: Under the Cherry Moon, Sign o’ The Times, and Graffiti Bridge. He had numerous worldwide tours and 39 studio albums.
There will be never be another like Prince.

Prince’s passing was sudden and thus; the, whole world is in tears.I will cherish every Prince moment I have, from that day when I was a little kid in the record store, till the present moment, as I downloaded his latest album, Hit ‘N Run Phase 2. And considering if they will release any of the thousands of songs from infamous Vault.
